Abstract
This article surveys sequence-generating algorithms. Considerations are discussed for implementing sequence generators in both conventional and object-oriented programming languages. Each generator is evaluated with regard to both distribution and modes of dependence. The standard random number generator becomes a basis of comparison for more exotic generators guided by conditional probability, by chaos and by statistical feedback.
